Hey everyone, I'm a little lost with the whole religion thing and I'm admitting right now I'm not exactly 100% in the know with the Christian religion and that this may come off as ignorant, so please don't flame me. It always seems to do more harm than good, though. Have any of you seen the movie "Zeitgeist"? If you haven't and you have the time, please watch it, because that is where most of my questions stem from. (Just Google it and click the first link.)
I just don't understand. I know this isn't hundreds of years ago, but in history class we were learning that Christian crusaders captured native americans and fed them salt as part of a religious conversion practice- I thought Christianity was about love, no?
Also, I mean, how do you explain things like evolution and all that? We all know it exists. I feel sometimes that religion makes people a bit ignorant or closed-minded, like they don't even want to listen.
Christians, how do you remain so strong in your faith when things like scientific evidence point you in the other direction? How do you explain that God was 'Begotten, not made'? I know our existence is baffling but I can't get my head around believing in something that was supposedly always there. How about the vertical evolution of one-celled organisms?
How about the very origin of Christianity? If you believe your religion to be correct and you are faithful towards it, there are earlier religions than yours. For example, Zeitgeist explains the similarities between the early Egyptian religion and Christianity. It's really shocking. How do you know that the holy book, the Bible, wasn't written by some man that got bored one day and decided to write fiction?
Thanks very much for reading and I appreciate your responses.
