Of course, you could also select many other planets, moons, fractals, etc. to be shown on that globe.
The information could be send wireless and live from internet to the globe, so you can see the current weather globally.

Or one could see the locations on the globe where your family (children) are at the moment (your family/children will have a GPS-chip in their body in the future, if you like it or not.)
You could zoom in realtime to the streets/disco's where your children are.

This is not just science 'fiction', this will be science fact.

A kidnapper in the far future can't simply remove the chip, because nanobots in the body would detect this and activate (or even create) a new one and call 911 or the parents automatically.
