As for the whole film, I guess it didn't contain nearly enough lolz about spewing, tits and Rohypnol for today's movie critics to love it, but Spielberg's "War of the World's" remains a childhood nightmare made real.

There's a slightly flabby midsection and a hurried ending everyone should already know, but please - ignore the detractors. Only obsessives are going to care that it's a deviation from the 1898 book of the same name (if you ask me, it's refreshing to see it done differently when there have been so many interpretations, three of which were released in 2005 alone), and it's something of an eye opener watching the talents of Tom Cruise being eclipsed by an 11 year-old Dakota Fanning.

If you like science fiction and suspense, and preferably a cocktail of the two, this one takes some beating. And come on, it's under a fiver on Amazon!
